Hello, and welcome to our guided meditation series, it’s good to have you with us.
This meditation is called “Leaves on a Stream”, and it’s going to help us mindfully notice our thoughts, and then let them go.
Let’s begin.
Find a quiet and comfortable place to sit, preferably with your feet on the ground.
Close your eyes, or rest them gently on a fixed spot in the room.
Take a deep breath.
Breathe in, and then breathe out.
Think about what it feels like to breathe.
Notice what it feels like to be sat comfortably, the impact on your legs and your back.
Notice your breath.
Notice the sounds that are happening around you.
[LONGER PAUSE]
Imagine that you’re sat watching a gently flowing stream. Notice the surface of the water and the sounds that it makes.
The stream can look and sound how you want it to.
There are leaves floating on the surface of the water.
During this meditation, thoughts are going to pop into your head.
This is okay.
Notice each thought that pops into your head. It doesn’t matter what kind of thought it is. It can be happy, sad, uncomfortable, or neutral.
Just place each thought on a leaf and allow the leaf to float on by and out of sight.
You could be thinking “this is silly”, or “I’m not sure I’m doing this right”.
That’s okay. Just notice those thoughts, place them on a leaf, and allow the leaf to gently float on by.
If you’re thinking “I have no thoughts”, just notice this, place this thought on a leaf and allow it to gently float on by.
[LONGER PAUSE]
Our thoughts are like leaves on a stream, always coming and going. Sometimes we have lots of thoughts, and sometimes we have very few.
Sometimes, we can get stuck on thoughts, but they always float on by and out of sight.
If difficult thoughts come up, just notice what they feel like.
Enjoyable thoughts and uncomfortable thoughts all float away in the same way.
Just place them on a leaf and let them go.
Spend a few more moments watching your thoughts float on by.
Whenever you’re ready, open your eyes and begin to bring yourself back into the room.
Notice your breathing.
Notice what it feels like to be sitting.
Notice the feeling on your legs, and your back.
And if your feet are on the ground, notice what it feels like to be connected.
Think about what it was like to watch your thoughts float by.
Did you notice anything in particular?
Thank you for listening to our meditation series. We hope to see you again soon.
Take care.
