LA based bedroom producer Mk.gee has slid back into all of our DM’s with his new lo-fi slow-dance single, “How Many Miles”.
Straight out of the Jai Paul playbook, Mk.gee masterfully combines an 80’s pop sensibility with a glitchy and DIY production style, resulting in a late-summer slow jam that will take some topping in the heavy rotation department.
His warm vocals combine beautifully with distant strings, with echoed and exaggerated drums holding together spiralling chorus-heavy riffs that would make Prince blush.
“How many miles” represents a creative departure from Mk.gees more abrasive work, but stays true to his bedroom roots. It is one of two tracks with unknown collaborator, Two.star, who’s only song credits involve Mk.gee himself.
The track’s brevity, combined with the rhythmic synths that run through it, work heavily in it’s favour, giving us a waiting-room interlude flavoured hit, that leaves you wanting to stay in whatever dreamy lift you just got out of.
